• We use WPB2D to periodically back up our website onto Dropbox. Recently, I’ve noticed that someone else is using the app to update files on my Dropbox folder. The files are updating on their own, not in sync with the regularly scheduled backups. (They happen MUCH more frequently.) Here are some examples of the file names:

    forward_enabled.png
    sort_desc.png
    back_enabled_hover.png
    sort_both.png

There are many, many more, but all are of this nature. As you’ve probably already guessed, we are IT neophytes. These are not files that any of us using Dropbox in the office is capable of producing. It seems as though someone else is using the WPB2D app for their own work and backing it up on our Dropbox. I’ve already contacted Dropbox about this, and their advice was to contact WordPress, so here we are.

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

  • Hi Sunflair it sounds like someone has authorised your Dropbox account to work with WPB2D

    Go here https://www.dropbox.com/account#security

Then scroll to the bottom and unlink the app to deauthorise WPB2D. This will stop Dropbox from allowing connections from the plugin. If you want to use the plugin you just need to link it again.

Thanks for the advice. Correct me if I’m wrong, but deauthorizing WPB2D will also disable the automatic backups we currently have going to Dropbox. We want to keep that, just not the constant unauthorized updates that keep showing up.

It’s happening the same thing to me, my WPB2D is updating endlessly files, way beyond the scheduled backup plan.
Is there any danger for the data stored in Dropbox????

Sunflair – sorry for late reply! If you deauthorise WPB2D via the security options you can then just reauthorise for the app. This will lock out anyone else using the Dropbox account. I’d also recommend changing your password at this stage.

Thanks Iain. Your help is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I’m a WordPress neophyte. I scoured “Dashboard,” “Settings,” and “WPB2D.” Couldn’t find the word “security” anywhere. I’m afraid I’m going to need some step-by-step hand holding to get this done.

Sorry, never mind. I scrolled up and saw that you provided the necessary link in an earlier post. Thanks again!

This happened to me about 2 weeks ago and my whole site disappeared – just the theme and basic layout remain. No posts or media and I can’t even log in to wordpress anymore – it says my account doesn’t exist…

I notice no answers by the author of the plugin.
    Not a good sign…..
