• Hello

Im helping a friend making his single website into a multilingual using multisite.
We are using a subfolder multisite installation.

At the moment we have 3 sites.
    1. The main site: https://ctms.dk – this one is not used.
    2. The danish one: https://www.ctms.dk/da/
    3. The English one: https://www.ctms.dk/en/

Everything is up and running, and on the surface it all looks fine.
However we are experiencing a weird problem, and i can’t figure out what is causing it.

Every night something creates a folder on the server called “en”, which disrupts the english site. First i thought i was a plugin causing this, so I tried to disable all plugins. But it didn’t help. The folder is still being created.

The folder always gets created in the middle of the night. Sometimes it’s around 1.30am other times its closer to 3.30am.

Does anyone have an idea what could cause this?

I really hope someone can help.

    /Esben

  • Is it possible that it isn’t WordPress but either the server itself or something else you have installed there that’s creating the folder? That’s one possibility to eliminate.

The fact that it’s reappearing during a given time frame suggests that it’s a product of a cron job (a task scheduled to take place on a specified schedule). There’s a plugin called Crontrol that you can install to see what WordPress-specific cron jobs are scheduled. Activate it on each site and look at the list of jobs (you’ll find it under Tools in the admin menu). If a job is scheduled around 1:30, that may be what’s creating the folder. If you find something likely you can post the job name, and it may help resolve your issue.

The server also runs cron jobs independently of WordPress, so again, you’ll need to be sure it’s not the server or some other software creating it. I assume your hosting service will know if it’s being created by the server.

The server isn’t doing cronjobs or anything of the sort.
I have tried running all of the wp-cronjobs manually, but neither creates the folder.

I assume the en folder is empty?
