    Hi guys,

I’ve got Relevannsi running all through my website, and I think that I’ve found a problem/bug.

It’s great at searching for words, but searching for something like ’15 years’ gives a critical error – until I backspace the browser – when it returns back to normal.

I’ve tried going into the advanced settings and reducing the word length down to ‘two’ but the result is the same when searching for ’15 years’ -meaning that Relevanssi doesn’t seem to like numbers.

Just something that I thought you ought to know about?

What is the critical error, exactly?

Relevanssi doesn’t mind numbers. They’re characters, just like letters, and Relevanssi doesn’t care much. The problem here is somewhere else, and it’s something specific to your site.

If you can tell me the exact error message you’re getting, I may be able to help.

    Hi @msaari

It’s just a generic message saying that:

There has been a critical error on this website.

There’s usually a better error message somewhere; sometimes, you’ll get one in the admin email, or you can find it in the server PHP error log.

Without the actual error message, I can’t tell what’s up and can’t help you.

I went through the error logs, and there were none for Relevvansi.

However I DID find loads from a forum plugin called WPForo.

I deactivated WPForo and there were no further problems.

What if you activate WPForo and disable custom excerpts in Relevanssi?

    Hi @msaari

Custom excerpts were already disabled, so I tried disabling ‘custom search results snippets’.

That seemed to do the trick!

    Thanks for your advisories

There’s probably something in the WPForo posts that the Relevanssi excerpt generating code doesn’t like. Nothing to do with numbers, that search query just brings up the posts that trigger the problem.

True, as disabling WPForo cured the issue.

It was only with double numerical figures though?

Searches for ‘1’ or ‘1984’ seemed to work quite normally.

Anyway, I have thrown it over to WPForo now.

No, I’m pretty sure it’s about that specific search term bringing up the specific post that triggers the error.

WPForo is likely to say, “third party problem, no can do”.

Good point – I’ll check that post for anything strange.
