I know this is long but I please, please need help ??

The landing page is messed up. If you click on a post, when it opens it’s how it should be. If you click on the header to go back to the home page it’s messed up.

    Sooo,

Two days ago I came across a ‘WP mobile something’ and installed it (Plug-in? I don’t remember…It would make it easy to view my website on phones/tablets etc.) I also added a plug-in right after called “Widgetize Pages Light”. Everything was working fine, then the next day I noticed that everything was messed up.

When I open my website on my phone it’s all dark and weird. The white posts background is gone and my page background was in it’s place and you can’t read any of my posts and there are missing widgets too. I thought it was only the mobile part because my site was fine on my computer. I then realized that if I went to my site in “incognito”, where I’m not logged in as admin, the page was just the same as the phone all dark and weird.

I restored my plug-ins to last weeks save (when my site was fine), emptied all caches and it was back to normal. But this morning it’s back to messed up. And still, if I go to my site as admin it’s perfectly fine but if I’m logged out, it’s a mess. WHY IS THIS?? Obviously this is what the public is viewing and it’s all messed up! I need help!
    (I’m using the Graphene theme.)

(When I came across the ‘WP mobile..’ I was looking for something else and just saw it and thought it would be good to have. I know it’s dumb of me but I’m very novice at all this website stuff ?? And it was working fine at first! A more friendly mobile user experience… until it wasn’t ?? What’s weird is that I couldn’t find anything in my plug-ins that would be this ‘WP mobile whatever’ I thought it was a plug-in… )

Anyone know what I should do???
    THANKS!!!!

  • Hi llgchristy!

First off, I really like your site. Bookmarked for when I get time to pull a guitar out of the attic! ??

I have checked the site on Firefox and Chrome, and they seem to be doing OK at full screen. However, if you do still have a “responsive” plugin installed, it’s not working very well…

On my phone (HTC One), it’s OK except that your Ed Sheeran Soundcloud clip overlays the header image.

If it were my site, there would be two things I would try.

    1) Do some serious research on an actual good, responsive theme that does not require plugins but still comes pretty close to the layout you want. One of your plugins is generating a half-million character cached stylesheet that is regenerated every time the page loads. This is costing you a full 5 seconds on load time. A good, modern responsive theme would not require anything like that. You would probably have to make some styling changes, but I think it’d be worth the effort. You should be able to find plenty of responsive themes similar to Graphene since it only has 2 sidebar and 1 footer widget areas. Be sure to use the “Feature filter” to select a responsive layout if you choose to go this route.

    2) Disable every single plugin you have. Then, one at a time, re-enable a plugin, clear your browser cache and test your site to see what happens. When you find a screwed up layout and/or excessive load times, you’ve probably found a plugin that is hurting your site. You might even find more than one like this.

It looks like your site is pretty active, so while you are doing either or both of the above do as much of it as you can from your Appearance>Themes menu. You can preview each theme you have installed without actually activating the theme. (You will still want to clear your browser cache each time you enable/disable a plugin.) Unfortunately, deactivating all of your plugins will affect your live site, but again, it will be worth the effort.

Without access to your admin area, that’s probably the best I can do at this point.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

I finally figured this out a couple weeks ago! It was in Jet pack! I simply turned off ‘make my site mobile friendly’ and now it works and all is good ?? I did change my theme as well so it is now mobile friendly and everything works and guitar tabs are still playable on mobile devices ??

Thanks for the input 9 months ago… ??
