something wrong on servers configuration

  • I have recently been getting the message:

    An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

    This appears when I try and add a new plugin, or edit existing ones.
    The message sometimes continues with:

    (WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.ads-software.com. Please contact your server administrator.) in /home/harry/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/plugin-install.php on line 77

    I presume it is related, but recently my Askimet spam filter has stopped working, after years of no problems. My comments are being filled up with unwanted spam and I am seemingly unable to do anything.
