I am getting this error when trying to checkout and am unable to make any kind of payment with Paypal. I only have Paypal enabled as a payment method. I am using the latest Paypal Payments plugin have gone through and connected it to my Paypal account. I have checked “Enable Paypal features for your store” and when I look at the connection tab it says under status that it is connected.

If I enable an additional payment method such as cash on delivery, there is no error. It is only when I have Paypal only that this message appears.

Any help would be most appreciated as I need to have Paypal working on this site.

  • Hi @dryne

    Thanks for contacting WooCommerce support!

To help troubleshoot your issue and determine support eligibility, we’d like a copy of your System Status Report. Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I have copied the system report however I am unable to paste it in here. When I try to paste it in, nothing shows up. I have pasted it to a txt file so I know for sure that it has been copied to the clipboard, I just can’t seem to paste it in here. Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi @dryne

You could copy and paste your reply here or paste it via https://gist.github.com/ and send the link here.

Meanwhile, checking your site’s checkout page, I can confirm the issue here. By default, the country is set to Australia, changed it to US, but still to no avail. I am getting the same error message as you can see below:

The error message typically appears when you have no payment methods set up on your site. As you mentioned that you are using the Paypal Payments plugin and have configured it but still, the error message appears.

I trust that you’ve followed the instructions on this support documentation to set up the plugin correctly, yes?

If so, can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce and Paypal Payments plugins are enabled and see if this works?

If so, then this kind of problem is usually caused by your theme or a third-party plugin present on your site. We can run a conflict test to verify this. I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described on this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

If this was caused by a third-party plugin present on your site, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.

Aside from the requested infromation by @amiralifarooq above, please provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I have saved the status report here: status.txt (github.com)

I switched to the storefront theme, disabled all other plugins aside from Woocommerce and Paypal Payments, tested it out and the issue still exists.

I checked the logs and have no relevant error logs.

I previously had this working a year ago with Paypal Standard. I was contacted by my client to say that customers were unable to use Paypal. I tested it with Paypal Standard and could not get it to work (just a got a page to say ‘things don’t seem to be working at the moment, please try again later). I then decided to change to Paypal Payments (have disabled Paypal Standard) and am now facing this issue. I am simply unable to use Paypal to accept payments in any capacity at all.

I have read the documentation and I believe I have done everything correctly.

Thank you for your help with this.

    Hi @dryne

Thanks for your confirmation that even after switching to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce and Paypal Payments plugins are active, the error still persists.

Can you please share with us a screenshot of the Paypal Payments settings for us to check this further. You can redact any sensitive information prior to sharing it here.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. Screenshots of settings are above.

    Hi @dryne

Thanks for sharing the screenshots above.

I did not find anything odd on your settings. It could be due to caching. Can you please have your host purge the site cache and see if this works?

    Hello @dryne

As far as I can tell from your settings screenshots, the PayPal buttons are currently enabled on the Cart page and the Mini Cart.

I can see the PayPal button on the Cart page:

But not on the Mini Cart page:

This is possibly a compatibility issue with your theme, but this is a problem for which PayPal Payments support team can provide a potential workaround.

As for the missing Checkout gateway, this will only appear when the Checkout button location is enabled. In the current configuration, buyers could only initiate the payment from the Cart (and Mini Cart if the button was visible). So when you enable the Checkout button location in the Standard Payments tab, the PayPal gateway should appear on the Checkout page. Please note that the Standard Card Button gateway requires the PayPal gateway to be active, or it won’t work.

But for additional guidance, e.g., regarding the PayPal button on the Mini Cart, I suggest creating a thread in the Payments support forums. Thank you!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi @dryne

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this thread as resolved. If you have any other questions please start a new topic.
