“Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid.”

Just manually reset your password via phpMyAdmin

Can someone fix this? or walk me through this? I dont understand what phpmyadmin even is, I just need to get into my blog.

ok so I found out what phpmyadmin is and logged into my database but the instructions do not make sense to me,it is asking me to find something that isn’t there.

IS anyone willing to aid me? ??

I am not able to find a browse button that is associated with the user_login

I’ve had that error recently too. I had no problem changing the password through the db but it does appear to be a bug.

I believe that bug is reported (and fixed for the next upgrade cycle 2.5.2) on Trac Ticket 7019.

I just followed all the instructions and when I went back to sign in with the new password, my screen is just white with the words “Error establishing a database connection”. I followed the directions exactly and now I am worse off than when I started. Any ideas?

I did everything, I’ve changed my password, but the login screen still says: Incorrect password.

Funny enough: the support ticket says:

“Note on upgrade to 2.5.2 all activation keys will be cleared out, So as any current users who cannot reset their password, will be able to try again [7937]”

But how the hell we will be able to update if we’re unable to login??????

As stated in the ticket:

It seems that the regular expression in reset_password like only letters and digits (wp_generate_password()’s result may contain some more characters) and clean chars from $key.

So I did the following – instead of editing my password, which was unsuccessfull, I edited the user_activation_key – just type a word, but make sure it’s something from a to z, no special characters. Then go back to your login, click Forgot password, check your email, click the link and you will be brought back to WP login, saying that it will send you a new password. Sheesh, I’m not that stupid after all ??

Easiest way to reset your password:

If you can’t login, but you can access your site via FTP, then edit the theme’s functions.php file and add this code to it, right at the top after the first <?php bit:
wp_set_password('password',1);

Put in your own new password for the main admin user. The “1” is the user ID number in the wp_users table.

After you then login, make sure to go back and remove that code. Don’t leave it there by any means.
