Sorry, you cannot run Simple Sidebars without WordPress 4.4.2 and Genesis 2.3.0, or greater.
I have Genesis Version: 2.4.2, and just updated to wordpress 4.7.1 and im getting this error when trying to activate Simple sidebars after install.
Also im running a completely fresh install of wordpress as im just now starting a new site. No other plugins are active or installed.

Hi, @fearthemoose. Do you have Genesis or a Genesis child theme active? You’ll need to activate the theme first and then activate Simple Sidebars.
