Sort by advanced custom meta-field value

    I’m sure it must be something I am doing wrong, but I have a meta-field called last-name, that I want to sort by. The field was created using ACF custom fields plug-in and works just fine in my custom posts. I do not need to use the field in my output results, but I do want to sort my retreived custom posts using it. I have tried various shortcode options, but none of them seem to work. Can someone provide an example of such a shortcode? Or a way to test and see what I am doing wrong?
