Sort Gallery by Exif Date Time

Anyone know of a way to imitate the wordpress.com gallery sort feature based on the exif image date time (as seen here: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/05/30/a-little-boost-to-your-photos-and-galleries/ ).
