Sort posts by multiple categories?

  • I am trying to set up my site so that a visitor can select multiple categories to limit the number of posts that are displayed. I have spent several days searching for this functionality natively or within a plugin.

    Please advise how I can accomplish this or where I should look to find a clue.

  • It’s probably similar to a multi-select box where you create a listbox or dropdown box that you can hold the CTRL key down to multi select. I would suggest the linking qualifier be “or” because not every post will contain all the categories they select.

    Sorry I can’t help you with the code. My knowledge with this type of thing was limited to Access Databases.

    Some one has came up with the widget!

    I finally found a multi-category selection widget from here:

    I left a comment at the author’s page when he said he was going to come up with that widget and he was very kind to email me today to inform me its out!

    I used it, and it works well for me, I’m using WP 2.6

    I tried this widget – exactly what I need — but once I click on a post from the results,then try to search again, it doesn’t work. If I don’t click on a post from the results, it works fine.

    Does anyone have an idea how to fix this so that the search always works no matter where the user has gone?

    The author of the plugin says he welcomes help since he’s not supporting it unless he needs it himself or can be paid.

    Unfortunately, I have no budget – perhaps someone will have mercy on me! ??
