Sortable / Searchable Image Gallery

  • Hi,

    Can anyone recommend a plugin for WP that will allow me to create an image gallery featuring nearly 4000 images that I will be able to sort & provide search functionality.

    For instance I need for a user to be able to choose an industry say Hotels & see all of those images associated with hotels. I also need to be able to provide a search functionality where someone could type in a keyword such as military & have those images only display.

    I am using a combination of WordPress & Dreamweaver to create this site so I need it to work with this setup.

    Sorry for the slow reply. This isn’t the best answer, I was hoping someone would come up with a better suggestion than this by now. If all these images are uploaded through the media library, they would all have an “attachment” post type associated with them. By default we cannot assign taxonomy terms like categories or tags to attachments. There are plugins that extend taxonomy functionality which will allow you to assign taxonomy terms to attachments. Then you can associate keywords with your images through the attachment post type. The code to associate the tags taxonomy with attachments is fairly simple if you prefer to avoid additional plugins.

    So that gives us something we can search for that’s related to images. Once again, by default, WP does not search for attachments. There are plugins that extend search functionality which should let one search attachments having specific taxonomy terms. I cannot recommend a specific plugin, but there are plenty of search plugins, I’d hope at least a few would let you search for tagged attachments.
