    hey @larajdesigns09!

Thank you for contacting us about our plugin. I’m sorry the ordering of the products isn’t working as expected, I’ll be happy to look into this for you.

I’d love to run a few tests locally using the same setup as your products. It looks like this may have something to do with the title including the “-“, as the rest of the products do still seem to be in order.

Would it be possible to send over a screenshot of the out of order product, “Amboy Dukes, The – Journey to the Center of the Mind” and also let me know if you’re running the latest version of WooCommerce and our plugin?

    Cheers!

    Simon.

Thanks Simon. Oddly, I have also tried with my own tests, and have had the same issue. It seems to always put anything new at the top, no matter the name, with or without a “-“.

    Hey there!

Thanks so much for that. I’ve set this up locally but don’t see the same issue I’m afraid.

When you were replicating this in your tests, did you perform any other actions other than creating a new product? It would also be great if I could know which version of WooCommerce and our plugin you currently have active too.

If you’d like, I could take a look at your site to double-check this information. There might be a related setting that I’m missing that could be the key. If this sounds like an idea, could you submit a request on our hosted support form so that we might pass over site credentials?

I look forward to hearing from you so I can look into this further!

    Cheers,

    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
It appears a mysterious “menu order” was added to all my products
(700+ of them) under advanced, though I never did this so it must have happened automatically. But when new product is added, it has 0 set there by default, and so that seems to overwrites the alphabetical, making it go to the top. Does this help?:

I beleieve I have the newest woocommerce.

    Hey @larajdesigns09,

Thanks for the extra information! What are the menu order for the other products under A at the moment?

I’ve added new products to my local site that shouldn’t be at the beginning, but have menu order 0, and these were still in alphabetical order. This only changed the order of the products when I set one of these to a higher menu order, e.g. like 4 in your screenshot. This then put an A product right at the end of the alphabetical list!

Could you let me know what the settings are for some of your “A” products to see if this might be the cause? Ideally, if the menu order isn’t being used, I think we should be able to set these all to 0 and have the alphabetical work as expected.

If you’d like me to take a closer look, you can also contact me on the support form I mentioned previously, so that we can receive admin credentials.

Could you let me know how you get on?

    Cheers!

    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
For instance, under the rock section:

Amboy Dukes, the newest record i have added, has a “0” menu order, because i never set a menu order. (i didn’t know this even existed until recently.)

But the record that should be showing before it, Abstracts, is instead behind it, and has a menu order of “9”. I never filled out that number, so it should have defaulted to “0” as well. Not sure where these numbers came from.

    Thanks!

    Hi @larajdesigns09,

That’s super strange then! I think it might be because the menu order has been in place for some time, but they added a fix to one of the recent WooCommerce versions, that fixed the ordering that wasn’t previously taking effect!

If you set the Abstracts menu order to 0 as well, does that bring it back in line to where it should be?

    Cheers!

If I set it to 0 it does go back to the top – unfortuantely I have over 700 products, so I wouldn’t want to go back through each one and put a zero there, since it would take quite a lot of time.

    Hey @larajdesigns09,

That’s great news that works! I can certainly understand that it wouldn’t be possible to go over 700 products manually, that would take a long long time!

I did a bit of digging for you, and I think it should be possible to adjust these settings in the database, though you would need a plugin or phpAdmin setup to do so. I came across this blog post article which lists the SQL needed to reset all products menu_order back to 0, which sounds like something you’d be looking for.

Could you let me know if this does the job and allows the sorting options to work as expected?

    Cheers!
