Sorting Events Calendar events on MAIN PAGE

I’m using the very nice Events Calendar PRO plugin to manage my events for my non-profit’s web site. I have the option enabled to display events on the front page. But they show up in random order rather than the order I prefer.

I want to display the events in chronological order by start date of the event. I want events that end in the past to not be displayed.

How can I accomplish this? I have looked through a bunch of WordPress Codex stuff, but the learning curve is just too steep and there are too many twisty layers involved for me to unravel.
