Jetpack is awesome. It allows us to do what dozens of WordPress plugins can, and it’s really a must-have.

I use the cookie notification feature to get more use out of it. But there are a few problems.

As you know, we add it as a widget. But even though it doesn’t appear there, it takes up space. Moreover, when the cookie notification is turned off, it appears and disappears instantly in some page views.

I also think it’s because of the margin between widgets. Although it does not appear as a cookie notification, it is perceived as existing.

Is there anything to do about it? How?

I was also wondering something. Is it possible to migrate email subscriptions to another service in the future? I don’t think so right now, but I’m curious.

    Kind regards.

    Hi @halilesen,

The cookie notice widget issue you reported is interesting and I’d like to replicate it at my end to understand if there’s a possible fix.

Could you post your site URL here, so I can have a look?
    ?
If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:
    Contact Support.

Also, you can share screenshots if that helps. You can create screenshots using something like Snipboard or Imgur and post the link here.

    As for your last question:

I was also wondering something. Is it possible to migrate email subscriptions to another service in the future? I don’t think so right now, but I’m curious.

I’m afraid we don’t have this in our pipeline for the future. You can still migrate followers from one Jetpack site to another, and from WordPress.com sites to Jetpack sites. Hope that answers your question!

OK. Here is the image I created of the change:

After it was accepted, I filmed its video to explain how it appears and disappears on other page loads:

    Hi @halilesen

Could you confirm if this behavior happens if you access the site using another browser or incognito mode, please?

In order to check your code, could you share the site’s URL, please? Stef shared our support link, in case you prefer to keep your privacy.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle

I took the video in my previous message while in the incognito tab. The URL is in the video.
    Thanks.

    Hi @halilesen

Thanks for sending the video, I did look into the Jetpack connection there at first, and everything is well connected.

I’ve gone ahead and browsed your website using Firefox 98.0.2 (64-bit), and I’ve seen that the Cookie Notice is working as expected, without any issues.

Can you test with another browser, or mentions to us the specific Device and Browser/Browser Version that you are using, so we can test things further?

You may also clear the cache on the WP Fastest Cache plugin before doing so.

Let us know how this goes.

OK. I think I solved the problem without realizing it. In WP Fastest Cache plugin, I made arrangements to prevent the caching of the cookie class. I removed them while trying something else. Now that I look at it, the problem seems to be solved.

But that void I mentioned still remains. Even if it is not visible, it creates a margin as if there is a widget there.

    Hi @halilesen

Thanks for reporting back! It’s more apparent now that the caching feature was involved with the Cookie widget not showing.

I’ve seen you mention that the margin is still there even when the widget is not visible. Could you send a screencast of that? I’d appreciate it if you start it when you type the website, to have a better idea of when this specifically happens.

If you want, you can use Screen-Cast-O-Matic for that:

I thank you. I actually posted an image showing this change:

By the way, during my tests, I saw that the problem I mentioned and thought to be solved was actually not solved. Here is the video:

    Hey @halilesen,

Thanks for keep working on this with us – this is a tricky problem!

I could replicate it at my end even though I must admit the gap wasn’t easy to pinpoint in my Chrome and Firefox browsers.

At this point, I wonder if it’s really something strictly related to the theme, which perhaps the theme authors can help untangle.

Can you try to temporarily switch your theme to Twenty Twenty and see if the problem persists?

You can also try using another, non-default theme to see if perhaps some specific customisation creates this void.

Let me know what you find out!

    Thread Starter Halil ESEN

    (@halilesen)

I also tried with that theme and you may notice that the gap looks more obvious:

To get rid of this, setting the margin of the widgets at the bottom to 0 may work. But this will create confusion if there are more widgets.

    Hey @halilesen,

Thanks for trying. I still can’t replicate this on my test site.

At this point, I’d like to run some more tests with you on your site to try to figure out what’s happening. Could you contact us via this contact form and mention this thread?

    Thanks!
