Spaces missing when copying from Word

  • Hi,

    I have a block of text in MS Word which is mostly Russian characters with a few English characters (for English words/names) inserted. The Word document displays as expected.

    When copying this text and pasting into WordPress blog, the spaces between some of the words (mainly English characters) become missing so the words end up bunched together and are unreadable.

    This error doesn’t seem to happen with any other articles we paste from Word, when using all-English text – only when we are using the Russian characters.

    Any ideas what might be causing this and how we can fix the problem?

    Try pasting your text into NotePad (or another text editor) first, then copy from NotePad into WordPress (I always do this way).

    Thanks – already tried this but it destroys all of the formatting.

    Our Word documents often have bold / paragraphs / lists / links included in them, and notepad will strip this all away making it time consuming to re-edit each blog article.

    In our other languages (not Russian) the copy and paste from Word copies over all the formatting correctly so saves us a lot of time.

    What other langauges does it work in? This could be a bug or lack in the Paste from Word feature in TinyMCE, the editor, that doesn’t handle Russian very well.

    Hi songdogtech,

    It works in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Dutch, German.

    I use keyboard shortcut to copy and paste – not any specific “paste from word” button (just in case that helps).

    Any ideas how to get around this if it’s a bug?
