• I’m getting a lot of spam from one website of mine.

the spam always says “This e-mail was sent from a contact form on….”

a quick google search brings up that it’s coming for contact form 7

but i don’t have that plug in. the only plug ins i have installed are

    paid memberships pro
    akismet
    simple page sidebars
    and wp super cache

any ideas how they are managing to do it would be greatly appriecated

Perhaps your theme has its own built-in contact form? WordPress doesn’t have its own contact form system.

What’s the URL of the site?

    I never thought of that!

    Maybe it is the theme!

I’m using the sparkling them by colorlib i think it is

I could give you the url, but it wouldn’t be any use because the wordpress is hidden behind a index.htm page and then it’s a members only wordpress anyway

It does say that’s optimized to work with Contact Form 7: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/sparkling/

Are you absolutely sure that plugin isn’t installed? Would you please double-check the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard? Also, is your site part of a Multisite Network?

    Thread Starter johnzoro

    (@johnzoro)

yeah as i mentioned earlier the only plug ins i have are those mentioned.

it’s not part of a multi site network

i can give you login details if you fancy a look?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

    No, please don’t. ??

Does the email mention your site’s URL?

    Thread Starter johnzoro

    (@johnzoro)

    yeah it does.

it says this e-mail was sent using a contact form on https://www.domainname.com

Ok, it’s coming from something on your site then.

How frequent are the emails? If they’re within maybe every 6 to 12 hours, let’s track down what’s doing it.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the default theme for your version of WordPress to rule-out a theme-specific issue.

    (@johnzoro)

I’m reluctant to deactivate all of the plugins because the website is a membership website that i use when someone has bought my ebook

    i could change the theme

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Ok, but that’s the only way to track it down if you’re sure you aren’t using Contact Form 7.

    Thread Starter johnzoro

    (@johnzoro)

i’m pretty sure it’s going to be from paid memberships pro

i’ll try disabling the other plug ins

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

I agree, that seems the most likely. I recommend posting over at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/paid-memberships-pro too. It’s hard to know for sure without disabling things, but no harm in asking.

    Thread Starter johnzoro

    (@johnzoro)

ok i’ve deleted all plug ins except paid memberships pro

i’ve also enabled askimet if that does anything

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

    Fingers crossed. ??
