Spam

  • [Please do not post in uppercase & shout at us. Post title de-capped.]

    I am receiving one or more spam comments to my site…All from out of the USA!!!!!!!
    This a new site. With all of my other blogs and sites I have NOT received any SPAM!!!!! I thought that Word Press was Harding ain’t the occurrence of SPAM??????
    HELP!!!!!

  • Where SPAM says it originates from is an “educated guess” at best, and most times it’s completely wrong thanks ot the easy availability of proxies and hacked sites providing annonimity for the SPAM’ers. Unfortunately unless you completely lock down everything you’ll get hit with SPAM. That’s just how it goes with WordPress. It’s not a fault with the system, but more that it’s become so popular that it’s an easy target for SPAM’ers so they target it first.

    The best way to fight the SPAM like this is to use something like Akismet. There’s also other plugins that can help, but I can’t verify how well any of those work becuase I haven’t used them before.

    For all of my sites, I start off with activating Akismet. Eventually, for some of these sites, they grow very big and gain lots of traction. At that point, I’ll add Cookies for Comments to use in conjunction with Akismet. I’ve found that combo gives me the least amount of false positives.
