We’ve been using Akismet for over a year without any problems. Spam comments were being marked correctly as spam and we didn’t have to deal with them.

Starting late last week or early this week, the process isn’t working like it was before. While some of the spam is being sorted into the spam folder, many more spam comments are being flagged as spam but left in the “pending” folder instead. This adds another step of website admin we didn’t have to do before.

Do you know what might have changed?

I’ve seen this on a couple of other blogs, but I’ve never been able to figure out the root cause. Are you running any other plugins? Especially, did you install any new plugins in the last few weeks?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

We have quite a few installed plugins, but none that have anything to do with comments except Akismet. No new plugins installed in the last few weeks, but some have updated in that time period. I don’t have a list of which specific ones, though – is there a way to see the update history for all plugins somewhere?

Over the last few days so many spam comments have been sneaking in to pending comments. I have to manually delete them. Something has changed but I haven’t installed any new plugins and there are no conflicts. Maybe the spam is getting more sophisticated?

I’ve just noticed that even legitimate comments are getting flagged as spam by Akismet, and everything is being held in the pending folder. This is becoming quite a hassle.

@anefarious1 if you’re deleting those comments, then you’re doing yourself a disservice, you should really be marking them as spam so that we get the missed spam reports. That data can be used to make adjustments for accuracy increased.

@elizabethcfs, drop us a line with the site URL and API key here so that we can have a look: https://akismet.com/contact
