Spam detected but delivered

I have visual form builder on a website with cleantalk installed. This evening a large number of Russian spam was delivered having been submitted via the contact form. Cleantalk appeared to detect the messages as spam (they are listed as ‘contact form data denied’) but they were delivered regardless of this. I even tried adding filters to ban Cryllic and email from *@mail.ru but they still got through after adding these settings. What is going on? I have not had this problem with other sites protected by Cleantalk also using Visual Form Builder.
