Spam in Comments

  • Hey all. I get a lot of spam on some of my articles being left as comments. They are very strange, they are worded like they are quotes from other websites. For instance one of them was something like “…most companies have moved to the internet to conduct business…”

    Which of course has NOTHING to do with my site. So i’m pretty sure it is a bot. Short of making only registered users be able to leave comments, what can i do about this?

  • There are excellent plugins for fighting spam:
    Akismet (comes with the package)
    BadBehavior
    SpamKarma2

    What you’re seeing sounds more like trackback spam. Going the register to comment route won’t stop ’em — and will just annoy folks who would like to comment.

    Spam fighting plugins are the way to go (as Moshu said).
