  • I hacked wp-comments-post a little to not let any card game related comments through. All of them got stuck in the spam net (like fish net, you know), though, but just seeing those red boxes in the comment editing drove me up a wall… I’d had enough. ??
I also hate that the spam comments are incrementing the id number…

    See my post Minna

I don’t know if it’s because of SpamKarma, but the words in blacklist don’t make the comments deleted, just stored (as I think WP is planned to work, anyway). I just don’t like seeing them and storing them, be it a future feature or whatever. Anyway, I’m not here to be a helpee ??

Tom Raftery’s link to his anti-spam solution looks broken, so try this one instead…

@minna You have noticed a WordPress feature. It stores all comments, spam or not. It proved very useful to me recently.

All you need to periodically clean it is a simple sql script. I think there is a plugin available which lets you manage it.

angusman – does having it checked only affect the blacklist, or doe sit also affect the comment moderation list? To be honest I 0 psma with only one or two coming thorugh eveyr few months and I don’t have any blacklist enabled except comment moderation and wp-hashcash. so I wonder if disabling that box will disable the comment mod list.

If you check it, all of your comments will get hosed, irrespective of your other settings. It will even mark your own comments as spam. It affects any and all comments including trackbacks.

Please do not check that box. It is buggy like hell, like version 1 of any Microsoft product.

So nowadays several members are delighted that after WordPress 1.5 they are not getting any comment spam. In reality all of their comments are being marked as spam and stored silently in the database. They never sees any comment in their blog anymore ??

    Check for details:

angsuman, yup I have that plugin I think you mean (Paged comment editing) and I love it ??

Oh, and none of my comments ‘got hosed’ even though I had that checkbox checked. Maybe because of SpamKarma, I wouldn’t have a clue… Lucky me.

However if you check “Blacklist comments from open and insecure proxies.” then all your comments gets hosed.

That’s funny, it doesn’t happen to any of my blogs.

In response to the original poster of this thread (to avoid confusion), your “test spam” was not caught by Spam Karma, because Spam Karma automatically allows comments from logged-in users. It’s a feature, not a bug.
