The last 10 days I’ve received an increasing amount of spam mails through the contact forum on my WordPress site. We’re talking about a 5 or 6 mails each day.

To me this is not a problem as it is, deleting those emails takes less than a couple of minutes each day, so if those spam mails are harmless, then I don’t really mind.

I was wondering however if there is another risk attached to those spam mails. For example is there a serious risk of my website being hacked? Or do spam mails have nothing to do with hacking?

There is no risk, they’re just annoying.

Have you installed any spam filters for your contact form?

I have found that Akismet works quite well to weed out form spam (actual use across many B2B sites).

I notice I made a typo in my initial posts. Obviously I received spam emails sent through my site’s contact form, not forum.

Anyways, this doesn’t include a risk of being hacked?

I will install an anti-spam plugin. Isn’t Akismet paid, or do I remember wrongly?

There are varying Akismet plans. The Plus one suits the needs of my clients quite well and for that measly cost leaves them able to work on other things. That is my 2 cents. ??
