• I have an auth image plugin and require visitors to input their e-mail address to comment and yet I’m getting flooded with spam (regular, not just trackback) with no e-mails listed.

With 1.2 these measures worked to stop spam. Why isn’t it working now? How are they getting through?

  • I have a couple of plugins that throw PB and TB into moderation instead if that interests you.

I really want to auto-shutoff comments. If you could whip something like that up I would be forever grateful.

My trackbacks already turn up in moderation.

I think that the auto close comments plugin is working and that it just doesn’t work for PB and TB. It is certainly still closing off my comments as before. But trackback spam always did make it through. I’ve downloaded the moderation plugins to try. Thanks!

No, I can verify for a certainty that auto-close comments no longer works on my blog. Aside from the plug-ins and the config file, the rest of my blog is an entirely new install and the plug-in doesn’t work.

Got it working. ?? Wish I could say it was something I did on my part, but it’s not. Not sure what it is (I use FireFox so it’s not a reloading issue.) but things are starting to work when this morning they didn’t. Autoclose comments is functional at this time.

Several users have reported that Auto-Close Comments is not entirely compatible with WordPress v1.5. You will probably continue to see erratic behavior.

    What is this Auto-Close feature?
today was the first time i got spam on my blog, i was all excited to see comments thinking they were from a friend when i saw the comments waiting to be moderated and they were all from some user called Online Poker, i click delete to five of them, but i can see how it could turn into several items to delete.

It’s not a feature. It’s a plugin which would automatically close comments on posts older than a set amount of days. It is not compatible with WordPress v1.5.

Wow i keep getting Spam from the Same User Online Poker. It seems to be commention on my posts one by one from the first post till almost the end.

This seems to be working for the Texas Holdem / Online Poker problem.

    Hope that helps…

    Okay.

The SpamWordBlock plugin is obsolete in WordPress v1.5. To enable this feature in WP v1.5, go Options/Discussions and enter your chose spam words into the “Comment Blacklist” box. If a comment matches something here, it will be automatically deleted and there will be no notification. See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Combating_Comment_Spam#Comment_Blacklist for more info.

So the SpamWordBlock doesnt work with 1.5 oh bummer, i just had installed it.

So what does work with 1.5
I’m also posting a new thread about Comment Moderation options, having issues with it.

    I’m running 1.5

The directions, regarding Options which macmanx posted got the ball rolling.

    Your mileage may vary
    Check local laws

Funny, I added my own comments to the .php script. I found the phrase:

    “Spam Words Found”

much too comforting a reception to the vermin engaged in using my webspace as private advertising, and I chose a new phrase, which I’ll not post here.

    Anyway, it works.
    Hope that helps, mate.

Jnetty, SpamWordBlock does not work with WP v1.5, but the developers have included its functions a feature. Read my post again.
