I’ve had 4 problems with the easy sign up plugin:

    1. When I switched on the honeypot it even blocked me from signing up and said I did not pass the security! I have tried again today and it has let me through.
I was trying to identify if I had a spambot targeting my site, every time I switch on honeypot all sign ups stop, but when it stopped me I can’t be sure it is working right.

I switched on the honeypot as I’m getting between 1-5 sign ups every day on a new site and they look like regular emails but something is suspicious, some names aren’t real, some look based on my blog, and none will confirm subscription- not like the other question where a guy said he was getting 20 a day of long numbers, mine look normal except for a few. I am afraid to trust this new list.

    2. Another problem is when I pasted text from wordpress into the welcome page some of the words had big spaces and would not correct and some of the email links would not paste in at all, some did but some revealed their long url instead of an active link.

I decided to change the welcome page to a confirm subscription page at this point. I do believe from a tracking log in my affiliate center that someone is sitting on my site, from Russia and perhaps China, and maybe US, and am taking steps to block their IP right now.

But I don’t know why the honeypot blocked me out and if there have been issues with it.

@marymoz thanks for opening the topic.

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps here?

If you can post the web page’s link I’ll take a look at it.

I’m using it on this site eatdrinkthinkdo.com see if you can sign up with the honeypot on, all my sign ups stop with it on including myself!

I switched the honeypot off and on a few times, tonight it did let me sign up. Since all other sign ups stop with this honeypot on and I was getting 1-5 a day, I now have to conclude I’m being spammed

But I’d like to know this plugin is stable on my site and to trust it

Hi it worked when I tested it:
    This is the confirmation message:
Thank you for signing up to EatDrinkThinkDo.com.
To confirm your email address and that you are not a spambot, simply hit the reply button to this email and send, and you will be sent the current online summit schedule along with updates as they become available.

Thanks, I see you in my inbox, the thing that really confused me is that it blocked me out and said I hadn’t passed security one time I switched it on.

I’m also not sure what a spambot does – but for sure someone or something is sitting on my site sending me very human-looking email addresses and names 1-5 times a day, you got through but they didn’t.

Regarding my other issues – I’m guessing copying a page from wordpress in there is not such a good idea – that is where the text had crazy spaces in it and the links didn’t fully load.

Are you auto-filling the form – if so you maybe filling in the hidden honeypot field, which is there to catch the bots?

Spambots will use an email address that will look normal. They are just trying to send spam and because your from does not contain a comments field you’re probably not getting their ‘spam’ content

The data is saved as a comma separated format copy and paste this into a text editor and save it with the .csv extension, here is a link to help you https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001356.htm

I didn’t auto fill the form. But I guess once it is letting me in now then it is ok. Switching it off and on is the thing that let me back in.

Thanks for clarification on spambots, the other person who commented had such an obvious spambot with 20 signups per day and random numbers, the real ones were harder to guess, but the honeypot sure is keeping them out!
