I’ve just recently had a huge spike in the number of spam user account registration requests. Is there any way you could add more controls to force users to prove they;re human before being allowed to even register?

NUA is working in the sense that’s these spam account requests are being placed in pending status and I can delete them in bulk from my WP dashboard. But I’ve gone from 20-30 spam account requests per day to several hundred, and am sick of receiving the account request emails.

  • Look a the captcha or anti spam plugins.

I have the same problem… is it as simple as installing a ReCaptcha plugin? Does the form need any integration or does it just work?

Perhaps the author can enable a captcha option of some sort, or tap into using Akismet filtering?

I’m drowning in WP. It’s way over my head. I added a blog to one of my websites, and yesterday, I get this email”
New user registration on your site Duck Pond
    Username: joiislu5l
    E-mail: [email protected]

It must be more spam? (I get about 2,000 spam comments a month).
My Website (swimyellowduck.com/blog) is so basic. All you can do is leave comments.
My question is Why would someone want to register as a “user” and for what purpose???? And why would I want a user to register?
Thanks for your help. I added Harrison’s new-user plugin, but I am thinking it’s for a more sophisticated Blog. I don’t think it’s going to solve my problem because I don’t understand what a New User is?

This “user” is just a spam robot. That’s the purpose of this plugin: verify the new users.
Users are members of your blog with different roles – admin, editor, writer… If you don’t need any user except you, Settings>general and desactivate the option that allows new registration to the site.
