• Hi there-

I’m fairly new to the blogging world, so please pardon me if I seem, well new. My blog is kinda low key and I don’t get awhile lot of comments usually, maybe about 2 comments per week, which is cool with me. Then in a matter of one day, for some reason, my comment moderation box was flooded with comments. I’m not going to flatter myself and think these are actually new, interested readers who are writing to me. The web sites and email addresses accompanying these comments indicate that these posters are affiliated with porn sites, so these comments, some nice and some rude, seem to be spam as my blog has is not related to sex or nudity.

A few quick questions for any seasoned blogger who has experienced this:

    1. How do I prevent these comments from even showing up in my moderation queue? I really prefer not to be greeted with some of the nasty or creepy comments I’ve seen in my box today.

    2. How do I prevent getting spam in general?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cindy

..And I just wanted to add that some of the people who sent comments appear to be having a conversation with someone else in their postings…not me…don’t know what that’s about.

Check out the Akismet plugin which is installed by default… follow the instructions to getting an API key and enjoy.

I can’t get Akismet to work, so I just took another plugin. There are several, I’ve got WP spam free. Works well.

And there are many kinds of comment spam, many don’t appear as such.

So I checked out my plug-in section and found out that I already have Askimet- it came with my wordpress. i just went and activated it. Thanks guys!

Another plugin that works great (at least for me) in conjunction with Akismet is Bad Behaviour. It blocks many bots from even accessing your site to begin with. Most of the junk sent my way gets nuked before it even gets to Akismet and what little does, Akisemt takes care of. As I’ve stated elsewhere in this forum, since using both of them my spam counts have dropped from hundreds a week to less than a dozen a month.
