Spammers and User Registration

I continually receive emails that I have a new user registration. Some are potential clients whom I obviously would like, but 4/5 are obvious spammers. I’m pretty certain I’ve disabled commenting, but I still receive the registrations.
1. Does anyone else receive this many spam registrations?
2. Should I just disable the registration setting? Can I do this?
3. On my WordPress dashboard, under “recent comments” there are several I would like to read, but the entire message is not visible. It just says approve, spam, etc.. If I select “approve” will these be posted to my website? I would not like this, I would just like to read them.Thanks to anyone who can offer assistance.
