• I currently have two interrupt based noticed cluttering up my WordPress install with Page Builder Framework installed. I don’t know if PBF is installed, but it’s certainly not in active use. One of those notices reads:

?? Love using Page Builder Framework? – That’s Awesome! Help us spread the word and leave us a 5-star review in the WordPress repository.

I don’t find this cut or charming. It’s rude and on top of that the emoji suggests PBF is for teenagers or the mentally challenged.

Rather stupidly the first notice reads:

You need to install/activate the Page Builder Framework theme for Page Builder Framework Premium Addon to work!

You’d think at this point PBF could figure out the last thing I’d like to do at this point is give PBF a five star review.

Two stars as as far as page builders go, Page Builder Framework is better than most. I don’t have a very high opinion of page builders generally and how they sabotage site performance. Page Builder Framework is well-engineered, until you start to use it, and then it turns your site into the same spaghetti-code non-semantic monster all page builders do.

I hope I can find a way to make PBF just go away.

    Hi @foliovision,

thank you for your feedback & my apologies for the confusion.
I think there might be a misunderstanding here.

It seems that you have the Premium Add-On for Page Builder Framework installed without running the actual Page Builder Framework theme. That’s why the notice appears. It is there to let you know that the Premium Add-On has no effect on your site until it is used in combination with the theme.

The Premium Add-On for Page Builder Framework is our paid extension for the free Page Builder Framework theme.

Sorry for my confusion but I didn’t quite understand what you were saying in the last paragraph.

Based on the notice you’ve gotten, Page Builder Framework is not active on your site. Also, Page Builder Framework (nor the Premium Add-On for Page Builder Framework) are actual page builders.

I’m sure we can figure this out though. I’m happy to help wherever I can to assist here. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regarding the review notice, this notice should be dismissible and once closed, should never appear on that installation ever again. If that’s not the case, there might be a JS error in your WordPress backend preventing our dismiss-function to trigger.

    Best,
    David

    Hi David,

    Thanks for your reply.

Perhaps the notice could include a link to disable the Page Builder Framework as well as not everyone who installs your software falls in love. I was most interested in the theme and in supporting your good work with the theme when I bought it. In the end we didn’t end up using it.

Filling the admin interface with demands for 5 star reviews in this way is one of the reasons WordPress has been losing mindshare and marketshare. Yes, it’s common, other people do it, but so is spitting on the street and swearing. It doesn’t make them attractive or socially acceptable.

    Cheers, Alec

    Hey @foliovision,

Page Builder Framework is already disabled if this notice pops up. It shows up only if the Premium Add-On is installed but the Page Builder Framework theme is not.

This simply points out a misconfiguration. This would usually happen by mistake or if someone was switching themes for testing purposes. Even if someone switched themes permanently, the message is still useful. It points out that you’re still running the Premium Add-On which will not work with your current theme.

I personally think this message is more useful than harmful.

The message shouldn’t show up if Page Builder Framework isn’t actually enabled, that’s for sure. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I’ve just added that to our roadmap and this will be fixed with the next release of the Premium Add-On.

Getting feedback is super rare and it is something very important to us – may the feedback be positive or negative. There’s always something for me to learn in these reviews. That’s why we have included this message in the first place.

I want to point out that it does only show up after 5 days of using the Premium Add-On and it is permanently dismissible. Imho, this isn’t “Spamming the admin interface persistently”.

I actually share your frustration about admin notices, especially if they are not dismissible. That’s a no-go.

I also want to point out that both notices are displayed by the Premium Add-On so they are technically not part of the theme which you have left this review for.

I’m sorry for the frustration this has caused & if you have any further feedback on how we can do better in the future, please let me know.

    Spamming was never the intention.

    Best,
    David

I changed my review from two stars to three stars (already as of my previous post), David, based on your promise to do better in the future with these notices. As ethical FOSS developers, it’s up to us to build a better WordPress ecosphere, no matter how difficult it may be in what these days seems to be a race to the bottom.
