• Most search results work as expected: The user performs their search and the results are displayed on the search results page. However certain words cause unexpected results. If a user searches for “product,” for example, the search results are shown on a different page. The two pages look similar, so it took me a while to notice the difference.

    Does anyone have any idea why this might happen? I’m actually trying to solve a different problem, but figuring this out would go a long way toward helping me.

    I just discovered that it goes to category.php instead of search.php.

    Still stumped. Does anyone know how WordPress decides which page to load when a search is performed? Running get_search_template() on category.php returns /path/to/search.php.
