Specify default role for multisite new registrant

For my multisite installation, I allow newly registered users to create their own site. Currently, they end up being the Administrator of their newly created site.

I want them to have (much) less privileges than this. Will this plugin allow me to create a customized role and set it as the default for newly registered multisite users who generate a new site in the network?

I tried to find this in vanilla WP multisite; unless I’m missing something I could not see how to do it.
