• I’ve used the Spectra blocks in the Header template on other sites, but this one, it’s not. Sorry, but I reverted back to the default blocks for now, I can’t leave it gnarly in public. So, I can’t show it. I’ll have to construct a testing site to do that if that’s essential. But hopefully, there’s an easy answer. Spectra blocks work fine in the body of a page. It’s just in Full Site Editing that it’s not. The Spectra blocks section wasn’t even showing in the block menu until I created a child theme. Everything comes up fine in editing mode, but when I look at it on the live side, none of the formatting comes through. Anybody ever heard of this before?

I’m checking with Spectra as well.

  • Hi @keress you will have to reach out to the developers of the plugin Spectra – WordPress Gutenberg Blocks, they’re in a better position to advise why and how to make the blocks work in Full Site Editing. You can reach out to them on this forum:

I should have mentioned, it’s also not seeing the Publish Press blocks, so it may be an issue germane to WP.

Block themes like Twenty Twenty-Three are built very differently than classic themes, so they are not compatible with all plugins.

The best folks to ask about that would be the plugins’ authors, as Thelma suggested above. They’ll be able to tell you if they plan to make their plugins compatible with block themes and Site Editing, or if that’s not something they plan to do.

Those two plugins ARE block plugins. I would think there’s a likelihood something amiss with the WordPress if it is not recognizing two different plugins, that are intended to be used with FSE.

Hmm, interesting, @keress ! Would you mind please linking to the two plugin pages you’re referring to, so I can take a closer look? I did take an initial peek here but I couldn’t find any references to (Full) Site Editing, so perhaps that’s not the plugin you’re using.

    Thanks!

Thanks for taking a closer look. That link above is to Spectra, which is a block plugin that has worked fine on other sites in the Full Site Editor.

https://publishpress.com/blocks/ is the other one. That has also worked in the FSE portion on other sites.

Perhaps the biggest clue is that initially, when I had 2023 activated, those blocks didn’t even show up when in the FSE templates. After I’d installed a child theme of it, they did show in the admin, but their blocks didn’t function properly on the live side.

I’m updating themes on this site after a week of a DDos attack on it, (likely Holocaust Deniers) so there are some worries of corruption somewhere. Could this be a sign of that? This is a 2023 that was just installed fresh after the attacks.

https://publishpress.com/blocks/ is the other one. That has also worked in the FSE portion on other sites.

Hi @keress I tried to add blocks from PublishPress and Spectra on my site’s home template. The blocks could be added without any issues as shown on the two screenshots below.

    Spectra Blocks
    PublishPress blocks

My site is using the TT3 theme and it only has Gutenberg and the above mentioned plugins. Can you please check your sites after deactivating other plugins, additionally, check the other site that is working as expecting to see what could be different.

It’s when you’re in the Full Site Editor working on the template that there’s a problem. And it’s only on this site. It had a DDos attack last week, so I’m hoping there might be a way to correct any issues that may have caused without scrapping the whole installation. Or if there’s anyone else that’s experienced and fixed this.

    Hey there @keress

It’s when you’re in the Full Site Editor working on the template that there’s a problem.

Yep, understood. In Thelma’s testing above, she successfully added both PublishPress and Spectra blocks to the Home template, via Site Editing (formerly Full Site Editing). So Thelma did not have the same issue you are when using the Site Editor, and was able to add blocks from both plugins successfully.

And it’s only on this site. It had a DDos attack last week, so I’m hoping there might be a way to correct any issues that may have caused without scrapping the whole installation. Or if there’s anyone else that’s experienced and fixed this.

Since you’ve said that the issue is only occurring on this one site, and since Thelma was not able to replicate the issue, this does not seem to be a conflict with the Twenty Twenty-Three theme and PublishPress or Spectra blocks.

I would suggest following Thelma’s suggestion to do some plugin conflict testing as a first step, to rule out another plugin not playing nicely with Spectra or PublishPress. If you don’t want to affect your live site, you can use the Health Check plugin’s troubleshooting mode to see if the issue is present with all your plugins – except PublishPress, and then repeat the process again with Spectra – temporarily deactivated, which will not change your live site – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ If the problem goes away, reactivate your plugins one by one (while still in troubleshooting mode) to find the culprit.

If the issue remains, even after testing with your other plugins deactivated, you might want to try reinstalling WordPress itself manually – while being very careful not to replace your wp-content folder, otherwise you’ll lose your uploads, themes, plugins, etc. I strongly suggest doing a full backup before any reinstall. You can get more help with this in the Fixing WordPress forum, as well, as this isn’t related to the theme.

I’m not sure how a DDos attack could have caused this issue, unless you think your site might have also been hacked. If you suspect that, here are some tips for doing cleanup following a hack.
