Speed issues and performance when migrating site.

I have recently created a webpage that essentially goes into a database and displays results. You can filter the results by date along with other things using, ajax, php, and javascript. When I had this functionality working on a test page on the server my site is on it was running very efficiently. However, I moved that content onto a wordpress page on the same server and cannot figure out why it is running significantly slower to update the results from the database. Is there something weird going on behind the scenes with wordpress?
