Speed not increasing

Lets focus on a Pingdom test first. Can you clarify which geographic region you selected for the test? And also can you provide insight as to what the load times when the CDN is disabled? Perhaps you can share the pingdom results link when you test with it disabled so I can use it as a reference?

Also curious about this plugin you have listed : Prevent Browser Caching (2.3.2)

Is there any reason why you want to prevent browser caching? It might be interfering with how the CDN is caching content. Most CDNs will read the headers provided by the website / server. Some plugins like this may alter the headers of items served by your website. If this plugin indeed is preventing browser caching, it might be telling our CDN to not cache an element as well (potentially).

I would also want to rule out this plugin by disabling / deactivating it to see if it makes a difference as well.

Yeah that plugin seems to be updating the version query string at the end of every static file on every page load :

• Page load 3 : https://nki6fl5hoob2.wpcdn.shift8cdn.com/wp-includes/css/dist/block-library/style.min.css?ver=5.4.2.1594034061

Every time the page loads , the CDN thinks its a new file and discards any previously cached version of the file. This “Prevent browser cache” plugin looks like its intended for site development to make it easier for clients to see a change that a front end developer may have made without worrying about them having to clear their browser cache.

If not used properly, it is not ideal to have this type of plugin on a live production website. I would recommend deactivating and uninstalling this plugin as even without the CDN your site will run much slower because you are no longer leveraging browser caching at all, putting 100% of the onus of the site’s static files on your webserver only.

I use they default region, but when I run the test, I notice that the server change to asian region.

How do I disable CDN? when I go to CDN Setting and turn off Enable Shift8 CDN and run the test, pingdom say that I still use the CDN.

Recently I have trouble to update my website, that’s why I try to user that plugin, but It seems no effect. I will deactivating and uninstalling the plugin then, and I will try the test again.

Oh I forgot to mention. When I setup SHift8 CDN, I made mistake by input my site with backslash in the pullzone.

When I found in one of the post that the backslash will result error when checking the CDN, I delete my site in the pull zone without disable Shift8 CDN, and I add new site, then enter the API key and prefix.

Did I made mistake by doing that ?

PS: I just run pingdom again. the load time seems to decrease

No not at all. You can delete the site in our dashboard but keep the plugin on your wordpress site. The plugin just needs to have the information in order to connect to our service (api key, site url, etc). You can re-set those and re-save whenever you like. It needs to match whats in our dashboard obviously.
