NEW: Yoast SEO can now store your site’s SEO data in a smarter way!
Don’t worry: this won’t have to be done after each update.
Or hide this notice (everything will continue to function as normal).

On clicking on the button to update, on every site I’ve tested on since 14.0.3 I get error message

Something went wrong while optimising the SEO data of your site. Please try again later.

It was working on version 14.0.2

  • Hi @joannacraig,

I’m sorry to hear that it’s not working for you. Can you update to Yoast SEO 14.0.4 and try the following:

    1. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin
    2. Go to Tools -> Yoast Test
    3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button
    4. Try the optimize button again

I have upgraded Yoast and installed the Test plugin. Followed the instructions and the same error

If you are familiar with the WordPress Command Line Interface (WP-CLI) you can follow this guide the re-index. It should only take minutes this way.

Alternatively, you can also do nothing, in this case, the database will “lazy load”: it’ll slowly fill as posts are visited.

I am not familiar with the WP-CLI interface. What is shell? And don’t know where to start with commands.

There seem to be a lot of other people reporting the same issue in this forum. Will it be fixed?

A shell is a character based interface command prompt. For example CLI stands for Command Line Interface. Shell access to your site allows you to install and update plugins and configure you WordPress installation from a command prompt. You can learn more about WP-CLI at the following link: https://wp-cli.org/

I have the same problem on some websites and a FORCED REFRESH control F5 sometimes helps the optimization button to work. sometimes not.

IT seems that I also have to do a forced refresh sometimes when editing posts or they won’t display correctly in the TnyMce editor.

We apologize for the difficulties the plugin is causing for you. We would like some more information.

1.?Verify your database has the Table and Index permissions along with Create, Drop, and Alter required to create these tables in your database: wp_yoast_indexable, wp_yoast_indexable_hierarchy, wp_yoast_migrations, wp_yoast_primary_term. If you are not sure, your host provider can help.

2.?Can you confirm your server has all the right requirements?? If you are not sure, speak to your host provider. This guide explains more:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/plugin-requirements/.

3.?Are you running a windows server?

    4. Are you able to pull the server error logs? Your host provider can help find them. If so, you can copy/paste the error logs here.

If you are still experiencing the issue per the forum guidelines, we ask that you please create separate topics for the issues you are experiencing.

That way it’s easier to track issues and provide assistance on your specific concerns on your specific site. Plus, you will get your own alerts for the issue rather than someone else’s. You may make a new topic here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo/#new-post.

    Thanks!

I checked with the host and all necessary permissions are in place for the plugin and server. No it is not a Windows server.

    Thanks

@joannacraig Are you able to provide us with the error log from when the issue occurred?

    Hi @joannacraig,

We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue. Thank you!
