    Hi,

I just upgraded to Yoast SEO version 14.5.

At the top I got a dialog with a button “Start processing and speed up your site now”.

But whenever I click that button I keep getting an error that something went wrong.

“Something went wrong while optimizing the SEO data of your site. Please try again later”.

  • Hi @jdj,

Thank you for reaching out, we apologize for running into issues.

To be able to troubleshoot this, we would like to know a little more information on your site and setup.

    A) Are you running WordPress 5.4.2? If not, please update and try to run it again.
    B) Are all other plugins and themes up to date? If not, please update and try to run it again.
    C) Does your site meet our plugin requirements found here: https://yoast.com/help/plugin-requirements/?
    D) Do you have access to the error logs on your web server? In most cases you have access through the control panel of your web host. If you don’t , please ask your webhost to give you the error log so we check the error that prevents Yoast to complete the process.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeroen,

The site is running on WordPress 5.4.2 and all plugins are updated.

My host says that the plugin requirements shouldn’t be an issue. Also i’ve never had issues with Yoast SEO before this “speed up your site” features was introduced.

My host also started, that my posts table is 417 megabytes which seems like a lot. Maybe the plugin has issues handling that.

    No PHP errors were logged.

    Hi @jdj,

Thank you for your reply and for more information.

It can be that the server/hosting account has limited resources and the indexation process can’t complete due to it taking too long. On bigger sites with a lot of posts (thousands), it’s better to not run the indexation process immediately.

For (extremely) large sites or sites that time out, we recommend doing nothing.
Yoast SEO will “lazy load” the new indexables feature as you, your authors, and your visitors read, write, and update content. In a few weeks, try running the site-wide scan again. If it still times out, you can continue to lazy load the content on your site until the process is low enough for your server resources or ask your server admin or web host to temporarily increase the timeout length while the process completes. Once it’s done, you should not need to do it again.

    Hope this explains.

    Hi Jeroen,

The big post table size was due to lots of revisions. I’ve removed them from the database and the post table is now down to about 60 megabytes.

It’s not really a big site. It’s only 60 pages in total.

However still getting the error. Would it help if I go into each page and re-save it? Would take some time but if that’s the only way to fix this issue…

    Hi,

Just to clarify, you’re also using the latest version of Yoast SEO for WordPress 14.5?

There are also other options aside from lazy loading. Would it be possible for you to try indexing via WP-CLI? You can learn more about it here — https://yoast.com/help/why-does-yoast-seo-ask-to-index-a-sites-seo-data/

    Hi,

Yes It’s the latest version of Yoast SEO (14.5) and WordPress (5.4.2).

When I click the “Start processing and speed up your site now” I see a pop-up flash for 0,5 sec and then the error message. It’s like it’s not even trying to complete the indexation but instantly fails.

Sorry I don’t know WP-CLI and that approach seems too advanced. Hopefully this indexation will become more reliable in future updates.

@jdj We understand if you don’t want to try using the WP-CLI method for the indexation. But if you want to learn more about using WP-CLI you can find more information on using it for the indexation here: https://developer.yoast.com/customization/yoast-seo/indexables-cli/

You can also find additional documentation on it’s usage at: https://wp-cli.org/

If you do not want to use the WP-CLI method for the indexation, we would recommend using the lazy load option and the database will slowly fill as posts on the site are visited.

We’re closing this thread as there seem no further questions from you. Please feel free to open a new thread should you have further concerns.
