• I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and have the options set to check spelling as I type.
However since 5.00 this has stopped working and my co-author has reported that Grammarly is not picking up his errors either.

We have both double-checked that our settings are correct, and done the usual chache cleaning etc but nothing puts things right.

I have installed the WP Proofreader plugin which works ok but surely this is a problem that shouldn’t happen? After all WP is mainly a written medium and we have all got used to relying on our typos being picked up.

Is this problem being addressed? Or does anyone know what I can to to get back to Firefox and Grammarly working reliably?

    Thanks, Mary

  • Hello Mary,

I use WordPress, Firefox and Grammarly every single day, and I’ve never encountered any issue. And I just whipped up a brand-new WordPress (5.5.1) site, and as you can see from the screenshot below, Both Grammarly and Firefox’s native spellchecker are still working.

So there seems to be more going on here than just WordPress 5.0+ — either in your local computers or your particular WordPress setup that seems to be blocking the spellcheckers — and not a general WordPress 5.0+ problem affecting all users.

Thanks for the quick response George.

I suppose that means I need to go through disabling things in turn to find out what it might be ??

I don’t have any unsupported plugins or anything obscure so I would have hoped that this sort of conflict didn’t occur … oh well …

Though I notice I haven’t spelt cache correctly and Firefox didn’t warn me so it obviously isn’t working here either, so I’d better get in touch with Mozilla too!
