• Ok…so in doing countless hours of homework and research trying to get myself up-to-speed on WordPress and blogging in general, I find out today about “Sponsored” themes.
    I know, I’m a little behind.

Now I really believe (again, I’m new to this so maybe I don’t have all the facts) that the person who develops a theme should get some credit. I personally wouldn’t remove a footer credit linking to the developer. Hey, if I liked the theme, a theme I certainly couldn’t build myself, then maybe someone else will to or maybe the developer might get a gig out of it or something. But, they’re putting adware in the themes? No way!
So, I don’t want to stir up a Hornet’s nest, but how do I find a great theme and know that it is clean?

  • They have been doing a lot of cleaning up over at themes.wordpress.net and I’m pretty sure they’ve gotten this under control, if you do spot a theme that hasn’t been caught they now have a report a theme feature.

    You can remove the adware.

I am not sure what spam links and sponsored themes are. It would help if someone at wordpress.net defined these terms.

Some themes at themes.wordpress.net are designed for Google Adsense. Are themes designed to include Google Adsense spam links and/or sponsored themes?
