Just noticed an error message in the Featured Image box in all my posts:

Warning: sprintf() [function.sprintf]: Too few arguments in /homepages/22/d333184526/htdocs/Mountain Paper/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 1148

This message appears regardless of whether I have assigned a featured image to that post.

If I there is a featured image assigned, I get an additional error message:

Warning: sprintf() [function.sprintf]: Too few arguments in /homepages/22/d333184526/htdocs/Mountain Paper/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 1159

    What I have done:
    – reinstall WordPress
    – delete all plugins
    – activate Twenty Eleven

These messages appear regardless of the theme I activate.

    My site: https://kristindoesdesign.com/Mountain%20Paper/wordpress/

    Thanks for any help!

  • I cannot replicate this problem using Twenty eleven, so whatever this is, it’s specific to your site. Try deleting all files & folders – except the wp-content folder, wp-config.php & .htaccess files. Then re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Thanks, esmi.

I did try your suggestion – deleting and re-uploading everything except wp-content folder, wp-config.php & .htaccess – but still have the same problem.

    I’m stumped!

Update: I have completely started from scratch and this warning message is still there.

    What I did:
    – Deleted all files and folders except wp-content folder, wp-config.php & .htaccess
    – Dropped all my database tables
    – Reinstalled wordpress, got a clean slate

With no posts and no content, I am still getting the same warning message. Could this be a problem with my hosting company?

For a start, I’d suggest that you get rid of the space in the Mountain Paper folder name.

Thanks for that! I overlooked the space.

I reverted back to WP 3.3 and that fixed it. Must be an issue with the latest WP and 1&1.

No – it’s a server issue. Some servers cannot deal with spaces in file or folder names and will mis-report key global constants.

You’re right! Just upgraded to the latest and it’s fine. Can’t believe I spent half my day troubleshooting a misplaced space… gosh, I feel dumb.

    Thanks, esmi!

Sometimes that’s how troubleshooting works. You start with the most common causes and whittle it down to the rarer ones. But at least we got there in the end. ??

I ran into this working locally (WAMP). I had a space in the directory name. Removed the space, updated the database and all was good!
