Spurious Characters in Member List

I transferred this site from a previous owner and have found that the members/user listing from the plugin is showing &lt at the start of members’ email addresses rather than the < sign. (So the semicolon is missing.) I’ve made no changes to anything around this feature. How would I get the missing semicolon inserted? The stylesheet is No Float but of course that’s just CSS.
