SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection timed out

    Hi there,

    I want to migrate a 20.0 MB Joomla database to WordPress, and I am already stuck on testing the database connection.

    I am using Plesk 12.5 on the old server and the database user has remote access to that specific database.

    There are several options I entered as a possible hostname:
    1. the hostname I see in the server options, which in my case is a domain
    2. the STRATO host for accessing plesk, like h321425.stratoserver.net and
    3. the name the databse is connected with (here: bla.h321425.stratoserver.net)

    Those options and diverse combinations of ports, but nothing worked. Either the connection is refused or timed out.

    Yes, I read the FAQ.
    Yes, I read the forums.
    No, sadly I cannot download the database. It stops after 10 MB. ??

    Which exact error message did you get in the log?

    The one I stated in the subject: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection timed out
