Square WooCommerce fatal error – Checkout Page

I am experiencing an issue with the plugin WooCommerce Square. When it is activated on my site (https://plantvan.ca), my checkout page does not format properly and I can not open Square settings for WooCommerce. Instead there is an error message: “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

It is odd, that a critical error would appear when the WooCommerce Square plugin is active. Per its changelog, it has not been updated in the last few days.

Was it installed recently, or it has been activated for some time now?

Furthermore, to clarify, did you already have a chance to test with temporarily deactivating all plugins (except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Square), and the Storefront theme (linked here) active, and see if the issue persists, or otherwise?

It is expected the issue on the Checkout page, and the Square settings in WooCommerce, to not persist with the above set-up.

It looks like WooCommerce was updated automatically on my site today. This looks to be when the issue happened. I rolled back to a previous WooCommerce version earlier but it did not solve the issue. When I first encountered this issue, I updated some of my other plugins and then there was another conflict with Flexible Checkout Fields. I have de-activated it for now. 

The next step would be to make sure all theme and plugin files are updated to their latest versions respectfully. It is recommended to re-activate each plugin one-by-one, after having them deactivated, in order to identify where the culprit might be. Feel free to check out this document, for further details.

Thank you so much for your help! I had deactivated all and reactivated each plug-in one by one, and that is how I identified Square as the issue. The checkout page worked and error message disappeared when the Square app was deactivated. I also deactivated Flexible Checkout Fields plug-in, as it was also causing an issue.

WooCommerce had updated automatically to a new version yesterday, which is what I thought caused the issue. I rolled back to earlier version but didn’t change anything.

The theme I have is Divi. It is updated and I uninstalled and reinstalled just in case.

Thank you for sharing more details about the issue you are facing with Square.

For further assistance, could you please provide the following?

• A copy of your system status report. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
• It’s also worth checking if there are any fatal error logs from WooCommerce > Status > Logs and choosing from the drop-down menu the fatal-errors.log option.

Can you tell us what you used to create your checkout page: block or shortcode? If you’re using a block, would you mind replacing it with a shortcode to see if that resolves the issue?

Just to make sure we understood correctly:

• You performed a plugin conflict test by deactivating them all and activating one by one, but you did not change the theme to Storefront, correct?

  • Yes. Right now, the only conflict occurs when Square for Woocommerce is activated. I am running on a Divi Theme.

  • Now, it is only Square. Everything works if it is deactivated.

  • It co-incided with the time – hours after the update. I did try to rollback to an earlier version but the issue persisted. I rolled back to 8.3.0 and 8.4.0 I also upgraded to 8.5.2 today, and the problem persists.

  • I’m not sure how to do this. However, it is not just the page content that formats in a strange way, it is also the header and main menu of the site. This only happens on the checkout page when Square for Woocommerce is activated.

Yes. Right now, the only conflict occurs when Square for Woocommerce is activated. I am running on a Divi Theme.

Kindly go ahead with testing as follows, and see if the issue persists, or otherwise:

• A default theme active, like TT3 (no Divi)
• Only the WooCommerce plugin, and WooCommerce Square
