• Starting building a new website, and we have two domain names.

    .co.uk & .com

I have managed to set up a free SSL cert for .co.uk using my host and auto install free ssl plug in.

However, I have now noticed it does not work or include .com

so been trying to find a way to generate a second ssl, but the plug in’s do not seem to support this and see there is already a SSl on the for .co.uk.

any tips or advise how to generate a second SSL ? or add it to first one ?

    many thanks

  • Are the two sites linked in any way?

If these are two independent sites, then you’ll need to go through the same process as you did for the first domain… to get and install a new certificate for the second domain.

Right now the .com domain is using the one certificate that was issued for the .co.uk domain only, which will not work.

1 site. both domains go to same 1 site. .co.uk & .com to same site.

ssl cert was done for .co.uk. so need to find a way to make one for .com, or add it etc.. for forward/redirect ?

as currently, go to .com address and it give a security warning.

1 site. both domains go to same 1 site. .co.uk & .com to same site.

Note that a WordPress site, by default, can only use one domain. So the .com domain can only forward to the .co.uk: the URLs of all pages will always show .co.uk (and never .com).

Since there’s only one Document Root, you can’t install a second certificate the normal way.

In this instance, you’ll need to REPLACE the current certificate with a new one that covers BOTH domains. Let’s Encrypt supports this, but how you do it (and if you can even do it at all) depends on the Let’s Encrypt client you’re using.

An alternative is to use Cloudflare and activate their Flexible SSL feature, which makes HTTPS works without installing an SSL certificate at the origin server.
