SSL certificate use

  • Hello Wonderful People,

    I don’t want to first start installing plugins, and then come here and wait for answers as to why it won’t work. Shame on me for doing that. Ask first, then do.

    So, with InMotion hosting, they don’t provide Let’s Encrypt, but they do provide free Comodo SSL. SSL certificates are not installed on websites, they are are installed on the server. Which means that SSL plugins should be generic, in theory.

    The only thing we can do, is run a plugin that optimizes the site to work with the SSL Certificate. My question is, a fairly simple one. When you don’t know which certificate you’ll be using, is there a generic SSL plugin that will work with the Comodo SLL??

    Is Really Simple SSL specific to Let’s Encrypt, or will it function correctly with any SSL Cert?

    No plugins are needed for SSL once you have the certificate installed. Use the plugin “better search replace” to search for https://example.com in all tables and replace with https://example.com. Once that’s done, you can delete that plugin.

    Is that really all that the SSL plugins do?

    Some of the SSL plugins change URLs on the fly, but if you change them once in the database, there’s no need for that.
