I just went to publish a new episode on my WordPress site and noticed in my Castos account that the podcast did not update with the new episode. I only have one podcast in my Castos account, where I expected to see the new episode. In SSP’s “Hosting” settings, “Sync to Castos” section, “Feed Details,” and “All Podcasts” sections, there is only one podcast listed, and it says “(default)” next to it, which is what I’d expect to see.

Instead, after publishing, a new podcast was created in its place with the new episode in it. I thought it might have something to do with how the newer plugin uses a “default” podcast, so I rolled back SSP to 2.25.2. Now, in the “Sync to Castos” section in the “Hosting” settings, it lists two podcasts (Default Podcast and my podcast name).

With version 3.0.2 I tried the following:

    • Syncing to the default podcast (the only option available): this caused a duplicate podcast to show up in my Castos account with all episodes synced. The correct, original, podcast only had the episodes I published prior to today. I then deleted this new podcast from my Castos account.
    • I noticed in the new podcast created in my Castos account that a website URL was listed under Advanced Feed Settings in my Castos account. I copied that URL and pasted it into the original podcast’s Advanced Feed Settings Website section to see if that would trigger the sync to match that podcast instead of creating a new one. When I synced the podcast again from SSP, it once again created a new podcast as before, and no new episodes were synced to my original podcast.

With version 2.25.2 I tried the following:

    • Syncing to just the default podcast: this caused a duplicate podcast to show up in my Castos account with 0 episodes. All of the feed details, etc., were brought into this new podcast. I then deleted this new podcast from my Castos account.
    • Syncing to just the option with my podcast’s name: this caused a duplicate podcast to show up in my Castos account with all episodes synced. The correct, original, podcast only had the episodes I published prior to today. I then deleted this new podcast from my Castos account.

So, I guess my question is, how do I sync my new episodes to the correct podcast?

    Hi @scottdeluzio,

I see your ticket in the Castos helpdesk, I’ll be following up with you there. ??

    Hi @keleigh824,

Thanks for your help through the helpdesk. Your answer resolved the issue for me.

For anyone else who comes across this thread having the same problem, here is the response I received from Castos support:

Typically when a duplicate podcast gets created on the Castos side, it means that the episode in WordPress is being assigned to a podcast that has a different “series” ID than what Castos has for the existing podcast in the dashboard so Castos thinks it’s a new podcast and creates one with that new series ID.

I see that your SSP install has the series ID of 5 for the podcast but the podcast on Castos with the RSS feed [feed redacted] has a series id of 0. I’ve updated the series ID that we have for you to 5, so now future episodes will go to the existing podcast here at Castos and not create a new one

Thanks again for the support. Hope this helps anyone else having a similar problem in the future.
