• I’m having problems with a theme I bought and the theme support has asked to see the site on a staging server – currently, I’m working on the site on local host using MAMP. I’m new to this; so my question is how do I set up a staging server and upload the site I’ve got on local host to it?

    Thanks in advance

  • A staging server is just A.N Other publically accessible server. Review Moving_WordPress.

Thanks for replying. I did read the link you provided before posting a question; but it confused me somewhat. Can you say which of the scenarios it gives is applicable to my situation, i.e. moving site from local host – with an url of https://localhost – to a staging server. To set up a staging server is there any software I need to download, or is it done on MAMP or through wordpress.com?

A staging server is just a plain ‘ole web server (PHP & MySQL enabled in the case of WordPress. There’s nothing special about it. Just grab some free or low-cost hosting space, install WordPress & move your site (as outlined in Moving WordPress to Another Server) to this new install. My guess is that your theme support people simply want to be able to access your copy of the theme on a publically accessible domain./site.

Thanks Esmi. Makes more sense to me now. I’ll give it a go.
