    Hi,

I was just working on my staging site to update my site and when I changed the home page from static to latest posts, the page redirected to the site preview and everything was reverted back to the old site.

Now, whenever I log back into the site and try to go to the staging site, it takes me to the live site and gives me a 404 error.

Did I just lose all of my work? How can I log back into my staging site?

    Hi,

did you enable permalinks on the staging site again?

    This must be kept disabled!

Your changes are not lost but you have to disable permalinks to get access to your staging sitw. Are you able to access stagings wp-admin to do so?

I hadn’t gone into the permalinks area at all. I created a second staging site and I’d like to not get locked out of that one as well. Right now the Permalinks are set to “Plain.” Is this what it should be?

Now that I’ve opened the permalinks page I’m locked out again. I keep being brought back to the 404 page. How do I get back in and how should I set up the permalinks?

Plain is correct, so permalinks are not the cause on your site.

Are there any custom entries in your wp-config.php which still leads to you live site?

Please send me your system log from tools->system info to
    support [at] wp-staging.com

I can’t access the WP dashboard now, so I can’t get to the tools. I have the Permalink Settigns page open, but whenever I try to navigate away from that page I get pushed to the 404 page on the original site. Is there another way to access the information of the staging site? Maybe from the original site?

Please send the system log from the live site.

I’m still fairly new to WordPress. Where can I find the system log? Everything online says I’ll need to have a plugin installed.

You find them in WP-Staging->tools->system info

    (@thr33fold)

Great! I would not have found that on my own. It wouldn’t allow me to download it as a file, but here it is:

    I see the issue:

    Try the following setting:
    https://take.ms/f9uu2

If this does not work i have to investigate more time into this.

Btw: Its not recommend to post system logs publically. That’s why i’ ve suggested to send me a personal mail.

Sorry, I was trying to get the systems log to you quickly. I removed it but can resend to your email.

Are you saying that I should have the WordPress in Subdirectory checked or unchecked like it is in the picture?

At the moment my settings have that unchecked.

Please enable it. Than create another staging site.

Ok, I selected it and created my third staging site.

Am I going to have to re-start my work from the beginning again or is there a way to access the second site from this third one?

    > Ok, I selected it and created my third staging site.

Is the staging site working as expected for you and does it not redirect to the live site any longer?

    > and when I changed the home page from static to latest posts, the page redirected to the site preview and everything was reverted back to the old site.

Have you already verified that this is not longer the case?

    > Am I going to have to re-start my work from the beginning again or is there a way to access the second site from this third one?

You can copy all you file changes manually from the old staging site to the new one. If there are database changes its recommend to create them again on the staging site instead copying the db tables.

I may have spoken too soon. The staging site is still attempting to be created. In the work log it appears the process is stuck trying to “replace links.” I keep getting this error message for line after line:

    [26-01-2016 13:49:01] Fatal error: wp-blog-header.php not included in /var/www/vhosts/thesocialmediastudio.com/httpdocs/SMSStaging3/index.php !
