I actually recommend converting those old posts to recipes by following these instructions: https://www.wpultimaterecipe.com/docs/converting-old-posts

    Hi

Thanks for the speedy answer. I did read that last night but I’m concerned about /recipe/ slug in the URL. Either I have to change 600+ posts or create a 301 redirect for every post.

I converted one post to a recipe using the method described:

    https://bigspud.co.uk/recipes/curried-lamb-breast-with-onions/

Which I can also access via

    https://bigspud.co.uk/curried-lamb-breast-with-onions/

But the canonical points to the /recipe/ version (I haven’t actually put all the recipe details into the right format yet).

What’s the next step from here? Should I set up 301s? Should I leave it alone? I have a lot of historic link equity I’d like to preserve.

I don’t recommend to convert your old posts to recipes because if you use only recipes you are limited. For example if you use posts you can install the related posts plugin. If you use recipes the related posts plugin does not work. And you can have more constrains and in some cases you could be forced to buy the premium wp ultimate recipes.

So if you use only recipes you are dependent of them for good. And I don’t know if you need that.

    Hi Gary,

Did you take a look at that link I sent you? You can remove the /recipe/ part from the permalink with a setting on the Recipes > Settings > Advanced page. When you do that the permalink is identical so no need for redirects.

I highly recommend going this route if you want to make full use of all of our features.

    Kind regards,
    Brecht

I also wanted to convert my old posts into recipe but thank God I didn’t do that.

I tried to install a related post plugin called (I tried with 2 popular plugins):

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/related-posts-for-wp/
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-23-related-posts-plugin/

And this plugins did not show up on the recipes, but they show up on the posts. So because of this I removed the WP Ultimate Recipe plugin and installed another one which don’t constrain me and let me install other plugins also.

    Be careful

The above comment is not relevant to this support topic, but if anyone is interested, there are definitely solutions for related posts for recipes, as discussed in this topic: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/related-post-plugins-do-not-show-up?replies=6

The comment is very relevant for this support topic. Peoples should know if they want to run intro trouble before. Mabey you should post a list of plugins that are not supported by Wp Ultimate Recipe so peoples should know from the begining what to expect.

For my case it was very important that the 2 popular plugins that I installed did not work with this plugin. I don’t care if there is at least one choice for me, I need to know that I have all the choices out there.

So this was the reason I did not continue to use this plugin. I said what I wanted to say, now let him to decide if he want to convert his posts into recipe.

You are the plugin author, it’s normal that you want to make him do that because it’s in your advantage, but I don’t have any interest here, my opinion is objective.

    Hi Brecht

Apologies for the slow reply, I’ve been working through the options with posts old and new. Thanks for the advice, that worked just fine. It was a little confusing on the FAQ page which is why I didn’t follow it initially (it said to do the action, but not why).

paulalexandru, thanks for your feedback. It’s always useful to hear from other people’s experiences of a plugin that isn’t involved with the development. I appreciate your comments, however my related posts plugin works just fine as it supports custom posts (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/yet-another-related-posts-plugin/). I had been using it before WP Ultimate Recipe and continue to do so. So no issues from me here on that front.

    Happy to hear that worked!
Let me know if you need anything else.

well the only thing it sucks with this plugin is that it creates a custom post type, not a regular post. so what you have to do is to embed the shortcode to posts to make a new post.

in this case, it generates duplicate content and duplicate recipes.
hence, I dont know if the recipe markup works just as fine if you embed it into a post.

in my case, when I post a new recipe, no related posts, no sidebars etc. working for me.

here I opened a thread for this purpose:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/what-happens-if-we-embed-the-recipe-into-a-post

Yes, the dupplicate content problem exists, I mentioned here also https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/related-post-plugins-do-not-show-up?replies=8#post-8304421
