star rating as a mandatory field

On a Contact Form 7 I marked the Star Rating field as being mandatory:
[starratingawesome* starrating-174 min:1 max:5]
There is no default value, but the form can be submitted even if I do not click on any star. How could I make this field a truly mandatory field?
