  • Hello duckian,
    there are two things you can try to find an error message.

    1. Keep a browser console open while refreshing the page and pressing the scan button. Check to see if you get any red text that indicate Javascript errors or missing files.

    2. Inspect your servers error logs. These are usually available via your hosts administration panel. If you need help interpreting those error logs, share them with me here. Feel free to remove any identifying information from them first (such as your domain name) if you like.

    Tried your suggestions,
    no javascript errors;
    hosting doesn’t offer error log.

    Also tried things at https://docs.wordfence.com/en/My_scans_aren’t_starting._What_would_cause_that%3F
    but no luck.

    Thanks.

    If the “Start a Wordfence Scan” button works you will see an ajax request (background page load) if you look in the browser consoles “Net/Network” panel while clicking the button. If the button doesn’t do anything at all that indicates there is some javascript or css conflict that is preventing the button from functioning at all.

    Which version of WordPress and Wordfence are you using?
    What other plugins do you have installed?
